3 Mistakes I Made Early In My Career In Cannabis — And What I Would Do Differently
I have been working in cannabis for 10 years.
And in that time, I’ve gotten to do a lot of cool things:
- Host events for 1000s of people at beautiful, iconic venues like Hummingbird Ranch and get the chance to book my friends and musical guests.
- Travel the country for trade shows and interviews, ending up everywhere from penthouse suites in Vegas to coastal grows in Cali.
- Smoke out the green room and sign the tunnel at Red Rocks Amphitheater (2x!)
- Make irreplaceable connections with people who have dedicated their lives to normalizing the use and cultivation of this plant
There isn’t much I would change about my journey.
But if I could go back, here are a few of the mistakes I made early on — and what I would have done differently:
1. Trying to be better than {others}.
When I graduated college, I tried to start a cannabis ad agency that you’ve probably never heard of.
I was able to land a few articles and press pitches here and there, and we got a handful of small clients, but overall, it flopped.
We were young and had no experience, and we tried to position ourselves as better than everyone else.
