4 Things That Affect Humidity in a Basic Home Grow Setup

Humidity is the hardest variable to control in a basic home grow.

Basic = Environment is reliant on ambient (household) environment
(No A/C, Heat, Humidifiers, Dehumidifiers specific to the grow)

If you’ve ever grown in a basic tent setup, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

But if you haven’t, there are 4 things affecting your tent’s humidity:

#1: Substrate (Soil/Growing Media)

Wet soil wicks moisture into the air around it; more moisture, higher humidity. If your soil dries up, there’s no added moisture in to your environment, lower humidity.

#2: Plant Transpiration

Like us, plants “sweat,” excreting moisture as needed. More plant material, more transpiration. More transpiration, higher humidity. If you have a baby seedling, it won’t transpire nearly as much as a large mature plant.

#3: Ambient Environment

Basic setups rely on the world around the tent. For most of us, that’s our home. If your heater has been running because it’s cold, that’s drying the air in your home out. And if your tent is…
