As a beginner grower, every small step forward is a milestone-especially the first few weeks when it’s easiest to kill your baby plant.

After you plant your seed and it sprouts from the ground it becomes a seedling, taking root and beginning the vegetative stage of its life.

Once you’ve gotten to this point, you’ve dodged death multiple times. But you’re not home free yet.

Even as a hobby grower with multiple cycles under my belt and countless seeds sprouted it’s common to kill a seedling every now and then.

7 Ways To Kill Your First Cannabis Seedling

  • Temperatures: Too hot? Fried. Too cold? Frozen.
  • Lack of Humidity: Too dry? Death by thirst.
  • Aggressive Air: Don’t blow your plant away giving it some fresh air.
  • Watering: Too much? It’ll drown. Not enough? It’ll die in a the desert.
  • “Hot” (nutrient-dense) Media: Too much of anything is a bad thing, especially for babies.
  • Forgetfulness: Ignore your plant and it will die.
  • Pathogens: The younger the plant, the more susceptible to outside threats. Be mindful of what you bring into your grow, and avoid creating conducive environments for molds, mildews, and more.

If you’re trying to kill your seedling, each of these will do the job, but a combination is sure to do the trick.

(Or, if you’re trying to have a successful cycle, pay attention to these aspects of your grow to avoid slaughtering your seedlings.)
