In any grow, dust is something you have to account for if you want a high quality final product.

Traditional commercial techniques like negative ion generators and ozone generators work great, but can feel like (and are often) overkill for a hobby grow, especially if you’re growing in a tent and just want to keep some dust at bay.

3 Techniques For Tackling Dusty Grow Tents:

  • FILTERS: HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) and carbon filters remove dust and odors. There are a tons of options, but any filtration is better than no filtration. Just make sure to check and routinely clean/replace filters (they don’t work if they’re clogged).
  • SEAL GAPS: Every grow tent eventually develops small gaps–in the zippers, in the material, and even in the ventilation. Fix these as needed; make it hard for dust to get into your grow (Seal gaps in the room around the tent to take this a step further).
  • MISTING: In nature, plants rely on rain and dew to “Wash” contaminants off. The best method is always preventing dust from ever getting into the grow, but if it does, a gentle mist can be used to shower your plants with sprayer (5µ ideally!). Be sure to avoid spraying under hot lights or during the hottest part of the day. Misting is not recommended during mid-late flower when molds and mildews can be a concern.

Managing dust is important during all stages of a plant’s life, as it can bring unwanted contamination, pests, and pathogens.

Pay the most attention to dust during flower — Anything that ends up stuck to your buds is going to end up in your jar, and your lungs.
