How To Check for Hop Latent Viroid (HpLVd) Using a Mail-In Test

Don’t let this latent killer ruin your stable.

As legal access continues to spread, so does access to valuable testing services for cannabis plants, including the ability to identify gender as well as the presence of viroids like HpLVd using mail-in tests.

Hop Latent Viroid (HpLVd or HLVd) is an insidious, highly-contagious pathogen that sneaks up on crops and can decimate the quality and yields of your harvests.

And, the bad news?

It’s everywhere in the cannabis industry — more than half of all licensed grows (and in some places up to 90%) are affected.

For a laundry list of reasons (see above for more detail), HpLVd has spread rampantly.

And, because it can remain latent (hidden/unexpressed), most don’t know they have it until it’s too late.

As some of you may know, the two oldest cuts in my garden are Sour Papaya and Poon Tang Pie.

These were both acquired at the same time, from the same person, and shared with a select few people. Since then, one of those people (and someone he gave the cut to)…
