Salt Life: What is a “Salt Grower”?

Before I ever planted a seed, I was aware of 2 teams among cannabis growers:

“Organics” vs. “Salts”

If you’ve never grown, you probably already picked a team by name alone.

I know I did.

I was Team Organic before I ever started growing.

Who wants “Salty” weed, right?

Except the weed isn’t salty, and, on an elemental level, a nutrient is a nutrient.

So what is a Salt Grower?

At the heart of it, the label comes from the use of mineral inputs, but it’s often used as an insult.

Mineral nutrients, already in an easy-to-absorb form, can be added to feeds and are ready-to-absorb by plants.

(aka mineral salts, chelated combinations of elements)

Versus “organics,” which typically rely on soil amendments and natural inputs that must break down and become part of the soil food web to be absorbed by your plants.

(Think composts and teas, and regenerative practices)

A Salt Grower is someone who grows with these refined inputs.

(either in salt form or pre-mixed in jug/bottle form)

There’s plenty of room for debate as to which approach grows a higher quality product; I’ve seen stunning examples from both teams.
