The 3 Mistakes You’ll Make In Your First Hobby Grow (And How To Avoid Them)
One of the best things a new growers can say is “I just set up my first grow, where do I start?”
It’s easier to learn new habits than unlearn bad ones.
Unfortunately, when most people start their first Hobby Grow, they have grand dreams, an eagerness to act, and overestimate their space.
Get the most out of your first Hobby Grow by avoiding these three mistakes:
- Overconfidence: We’ve all been there; you’re starting a new hobby and hoping you’re a savant, growing better than anyone else’s first run. Sure, it’s possible, but unlikely. Own the fact that you’re new to this, you’ve got time to learn, and others do, in fact, know more than you.
- Overwatering: When you’re just starting out, growing is so exciting that you may want to spend more time than necessary with the plants. This is great, and encouraged. But you don’t have to water the plants every time you say hi. Most first growers overwater and end up with problems like root rot or worse. If anything, water 10% less than you think you need to, and adjust if the plant gets thirsty.
- Overgrowing: I get it; you want to get the most bang for your buck since you’ve just invested your weekly weed budget into grow equipment. This is how I approached my first grow, and ended up cramming too much plant into too small of a space. Recognize the limits of your space: You are not going to find a way to get pounds your first time in a closet; grow within the limits of your space (both in plant count and size).
Dodging these three mistakes will exponentially improve your experience.
